ZONE HOCKEY

PROGRESSIONS OF LEARNING:
-COMPETENCY 1: Moving about an area with and without obstacles/ rotations on the spot and on apparatus/ balanced stances (postures) on the floor and on apparatus/ object manipulation
-COMPETENCY 2: Cooperates with partner(s) while performing movements or actions in the right place at the right time/ opposition movements or actions in duelling activities in a common space/ cooperation-opposition movements or actions in group activities in a common space
TACTICS:
-OFFENSE: Knock down opponent’s noodle by shooting at them and doing passes with your teammates
-DEFENSE: Defend the noodle and block passes
FORMATION: The class is split in 6 teams of 3-4 players. The field is also split in 6 areas and each group is placed in a spot. The 2 teams are wearing pennies to differentiate them. Cones mark the ends lines and the separation of each zone.
DESCRIPTION OF PLAY:
-The goal is to knock down all the opponent team’s noodle
-Passes must be done between zone to progress to offensive zone and attack the noodle
-Interception can be made to turn the play
-All players must stay in their zone and can’t cross it
-LAYER 1: Basic movement pattern and move safely in the space with some passes with teammates. No defense yet is allowed
-LAYER 2: Switch position so every player can try different position
-LAYER 3: Students are now allowed to reach in the opponent zone
-LAYER 4: The 2 middle one will be combine and create a big zone where 2 teams will share the same space
MODIFICATIONS:
-Add balls
-Play the same game with soccer balls
-Remove other zone so players will share the same field
SAFETY:
-Students should keep their eyes up and avoid collision
-Ball must be soft
-Players must respect the safe hockey stick position (below knee level) and no hockey lift is allowed
