Fundamental Movement
Fundamental movement represents the bottom line of every single physical activity. Without any development of your fundamental movement, it would be really hard to go through everyday life activities as walking, running, jumping, galloping, leaping, jumping, throwing, holding, etc. The fundamental movement games are there to help youngster develop their motor milestones to a higher level which will help them to participate in sport and physical activities.
Fundamental movement games are mostly played with young children and students, in order to promote their childhood development and functional abilities. Children must learn to master these skills before achieving mastery in any other sport. They really are the base of all abilities of games and sports. No one can skip them and reach a higher level of effectiveness. For instance, all the major league hockey players have started at the bottom line and they have not skipped directly in the NHL. They have all played pee-wee and junior before reaching these levels of perfection and mastery.
This is where our task as a physical education teacher comes very significant. We must have a good instructional lesson, provide feedback, demonstrate and explain the task efficiently, teach progressively and through the game in order to build and help students reach their own excellence. Locomotor, non-locomotor, manipulation and stability skills are all important skills of the fundamental movement which we need to promote during physical activity. We must bring creative and challenging games for children and promote their development to their best.
