Background
My name is Vincent Parent-Pichette and I’m 21 years-old. On one side, I’m actually a physical education student at McGill. On the other side, I have already completed my studies to become a police officer. Four years ago, I was studying police tech at Ahuntsic College and last year, I went to l’École Nationale de Police du Québec for my professional police formation. This formation allows me to work as a police officer in Quebec. Even though I could already work as a police officer, I wanted to study at university for two mains reasons: First, I wanted to try the physical education program; and second, I also wanted to participate in the university track and field circuit. I have always been interested in becoming a physical education teacher. The best way to compare which job between physical education teacher and police officer is the best for me is to study and experience both of them. Moreover, I have been competing in track and field for nine years, and I wanted to push my performances as far as possible. While I’m still young and really fit, it is time more than ever to compete at a high level such as university and give myself a chance to compete against the best athletes of the country. This is what brought me at McGill, in the physical education program. However, the alternative route I took to become a physical education student brought me many positive aspects: First Aid formation for basic life support and AED; exceptional knowledge on rights, duties and laws; much more maturity; good authority and discipline experience; bilingual communication skills; and much more.
I am native from St-Paul de Joliette, a small city north Montreal and near Joliette, but I actually live in Verdun, Montreal, for my studies. In my neighbourhood, we were always active, as a lot of children were the same age as me. We used to play soccer, hockey, basketball, tennis, dodge ball, baseball and many other sports in the streets and parks. I can say that I’ve grew in a favourable environment for sport development, because I was also participating in competitive sports outside school. Furthermore, my mother has always been involved in volunteering for sports. Personally, I’ve also took my part of responsibilities and I’ve give a lot of time with volunteering in sports. At the age of 14, I was planning and teaching soccer practice with the 5-7 years-old of every St-Paul’s soccer team. Thereafter, I continued being a soccer coach for 5 years in a row. I stayed with the same team and we progressed from a recreational to a competitive team. Today, I’m still giving as much as possible my time with volunteering, because it gives the opportunity to many people and youngsters to participate in physical activity. In addition, my own experience as a soccer, hockey and track and field athlete allows me to show and teach much more easily the values and benefits of sports. The following sentence quickly describes and summarizes who I am, why I love physical activity and why I potentially want to become a physical education teacher: I’m a natural sport lover and I would like to teach my own experience to children. I'm a an avid sports and I've always like to be active.
Interests, Activities, and Plans
I already told you I am a sports lover and interested basically in every sport. For the past 9 years, I have been doing cross-country and track and field. Moreover, I play other sports as soccer, hockey, badminton, tennis, basketball and football with my friends. I will never turn down a chance to be active or to play sports. I don't have many free time, but when I do, I mainly spend it with my family and my girlfriend.
I love competition and I am really competitive as well. In whatever sport I will play, I'll give it my 110% and spend as much energy as needed to surpass the opponents.
Upon the completion of my degree at McGill, I would really like to compete at the International level in Track and Field. this said, I would like to become sponsored and be recognized in the carding list of Athletics Canada.
Finally, after completing my degree at McGill, I would see wether I prefer working as a Police officer or a Physical Education Teacher.
