SOURCE: M. GORDON OLIVER
GRADE LEVEL: 4-6
ACTIVITY LEVEL: MODERATE
EQUIPMENT: BALLS, COLORED BASES, CONES
FUNDAMENTAL TECHNIQUES:
-LOCOMOTOR
-NON-LOCOMOTOR
-MANIPULATION
PROGRESSIONS OF LEARNING:
-COMPETENCY 1: Moving about an area with and without obstacles/ rotations on the spot and on apparatus/ object manipulation/ projecting objects with an implement
-COMPETENCY 2: Cooperates with partner(s) while performing movements or actions in the right place at the right time/ cooperation-opposition movements or actions in group activities in a common space
TACTICS:
-OFFENSE: Hit the object in a sense that you have enough time to reach a goal and where your opponent can’t reach it
-DEFENSE: Cover as much space as possible in the playing field and as efficiently as possible
FORMATION: Divide the class with several teams of 3-4 players and 2 teams are playing against each other. Place a colored base for the batter, the first base and the first catcher. Then, place 2 cones between which the ball must be send before the batter can start running.
DESCRIPTION OF PLAY:
-The goal of this game is to throw the ball to create you enough time to reach first base before the opponents catch the ball and send it to the first catcher
-If a point is thigh, play the rock, paper, scissors games to clarify the point
-Every player is batting 2 times before offensive and defensive team swap roles
-The ball must bounce at least one time before the cones and must travel next to it
-LAYER 1: Basic movement pattern and move safely in the space. Learn to run to the first base and let defense learn to send the ball to each other
-LAYER 2: Play the game with basic rules
-LAYER 3: Change side
-LAYER 4: Practice time for throw and defense
-LAYER 5: Let them learn to cover more space with the first catcher in play before the throw is done instead of staying on the colored base
MODIFICATIONS:
-Shape the dimension of the field and the location of the bases
-Different throwing technique or different type of balls
SAFETY:
-Students should be aware of their environment and of the trajectory of the ball
-Let some space between the base and the run trajectory to avoid collision
-End lines away from the walls
