Territorial Games
Personally, I find that handball is one of the most famous territorial games. This is a quick sport and it requires plenty of qualities and abilities to play this sport efficiently. All the players are both offensive and defensive players during the whole game and the play continuously change side and speed. This is also like soccer, football, basketball, rugby, etc. All the famous sport takes place in this category. Before you can play this sport at high levels, you need plenty of time to practice and to experience skills through small sided games. Moreover, there is many tactics that must be learned before understanding the whole game and concept.
First, the main objective of all territorial games is to score a goal by crossing a line or shooting an object into a net. Before scoring a goal, all the players must work efficiently together to control and move the object forward into the opponent’s zone. In order to score goal, the players must do more than working together and they must know and control many tactical aspects of the game.
Second, here are many offensive strategies that players must be able to do to control the ball. One, the players must be able to maintain possession and maintain a rally. This strategy is applicable when the players are having the ball or not. When having the ball, all players must be able to pass the ball to a teammate with the foot, hand or implements. When they don’t have the ball, they must be able to support the ball carrier by giving option and screening other players. This is the first tactical need for a team to maintain possession of the ball and this also requires physical abilities and skills. Two, the team must be able to invade the opponent’s team zone with passes and fakes. In order to achieve this, they must move forward and backward and maintain possession of the ball while invading the other team’s territory. Three, as previously discussed, the ultimate goal is to score points. This is why the final offensive strategy is to score goal by maintaining possession of the ball and creating goal opportunities.
Third, defensive strategies are also very important in invasion games because the goal of the defensive team is to gain back the possession of the ball or to avoid them scoring a goal. This is where every player is really important and that everyone must guard an opponent player as best as they can. Moreover, they must be able to cover space efficiently while protecting the goal and any further advance of the opposite team. Finally, all players should be ready for quick transitions from offensive to defensive or defensive to offensive. Turnovers are a great way to counter a team and to create superior number advantage. This is mostly where goal chances occur.
Fourth, a team ability to restart strong after a goal is very important. Even if a goal is scored, the game is never over. Children must learned this as well and learn that a game is a game. All effort can turn in your favour if you still think about victory and that you give your 110%.
To conclude, territorial games are worldwide spread games and most people know how to play them. However, use the Play practice approach and small sided games to let the children experience the game and lead them to the real game play. In short, these are the main terms you must teach for invasion games: maintain possession with and without the ball, invade a zone, attacking a goal and scoring, defense, transitions, start and restart.
