Quebec Education Program

The purpose of the QEP is to support schools in helping students succeed in their personal, educational and career plans. The QEP was designed to provide a common-core basic education, and hinges on the development of competencies by students, with the goal of using knowledge effectively in carrying out tasks and real-life activities. The QEP enables schools to help students deal with social change and participate actively in their learning.

Within the QEP, we must choose specific element from the POL (Progression Of Learning) document and teach specific competencies to the students. Here is an example of the document we must use to assess and develop our students at the Elementary Level.

The POL is separated within 3 main competencies:
  1. Competency 1: To perform movement skills in different physical activity setting
  2. Competency 2: To interact with others in different physical activity setting
  3. Competency 3: To adopt a healthy, active lifestyle

Within each of these competency, students must be able to develop knowledge, motor skills, strategies and behaviours. Every single class is a challenge in itself, because you don't only want students to play, but to learn through the game. This is an approach called Teaching Games for Understanding where you let students learn though the activities offered. Most people think that physical activity is only used for entertainment. However, it is a class where students will learn most skills they will be using for their whole life. Believe me, physical education is much more important for our students' development than you migh think.
