Net and Wall Games
Photo
When you think about net and wall games, you immediately think about volleyball, badminton and tennis. These sports may seem easy to play when you watch it on TV, but they are harder to play than you may think. Before you can play the real game, many skills must be developed and acquired. Moreover, there are several tactics that must be learned and understood in order to succeed in this game. All the steps to success are long and this is why it’s hard to play net and wall games with children, as they need lot of practice and experience to play successfully.

The first step or tactic that must be teaches is the following one: 1) maintain a rally. How many people have stepped too fast on the field to play volleyball? What happened without any skills? Normally what is happening is that no play goes on and people stand up straight waiting for a non-coming ball. Maintaining a rally is really important and it represents the first step in order to achieve good level of play. Two players must be able to maintain a rally with a ball before moving on. They must be gentle with the other player and they can also let the ball bounce between playing it. This will allow students to practice and get more comfortable with the game situation.

Once children are comfortable enough with maintaining a rally, they can move to step 2 which is 2) send the ball so the players will need to move. This will allow children to experience movement while maintaining a rally. Moreover, they will need to practice different kind of shot. Left, right, deep and near shots will take place during this step. It will bring the players to a next level and a closer stage to the real game, because players will need to move during the play to reach the ball. Still allow one bounce before the student can play the ball to move on gradually toward mastery.

Finally, the third tactics is to 3) send the object in a way that the opponent won’t be able to return it. This is where scoring points appear and bring the game at the final stage before the real game. The player will then experiences strategy and concept of the game to shoot the ball where the opponent can’t return it. Left, right, deep and near shots will still be used as maintaining a rally. However, the goal will be to score point as the game suggests it. You can still modify the game with layers or create your own rules. The goal is really to experience the game and to understand different techniques to beat your opponent. This is the ultimate goal of every net and wall game to throw the ball where your opponent won’t reach it.

To conclude, to play net and wall games effectively, you really must teach children these three steps in order. Before moving to the next step, they must be able to master the previous one. Always keep in mind that this is a long process to achieve success in net and wall game with kids. 1) Maintain a rally. 2) Send the ball so the player will need to move. 3) Send the object in a way that the opponent won’t be able to return it.
