GO TAG

CATEGORY: POURSUIT AND EVADE

SOURCE: M. GORDON OLIVER

GRADE LEVEL: 5-6

ACTIVITY LEVEL: MEDIUM

EQUIPMENT: TENNIS BALL OR OTHER SMALL OBJECT

FUNDAMENTAL TECHNIQUES:

-LOCOMOTOR

-NON-LOCOMOTOR

PROGRESSIONS OF LEARNING:

-COMPETENCY 1: Moving about an area with and without obstacles/ rotations on the spot and on apparatus

-COMPETENCY 2: Opposition movements or actions in duelling activities in a common space

TACTICS:

-OFFENSE: Touch the other player who’s getting away from you

-DEFENSE: Get away from the attacker and avoid him

FORMATION: 7-8 players set up on a single line. Both last players of that line are attacker and defender. The defender is given as tennis ball.

DESCRIPTION OF PLAY:

-The defender tries to escape from the attacker.

-The defender can use the other players to escape from the attacker. He only needs to give another player that is not facing him his tennis ball and take his place after. Then the roles switch and there is a new defender running in the area.

-The attacker can also change place with another player of the line by touching him in the back and taking his place.

-No one can pass through the line and the roles also switch when the defender get touched by the attacker.

-LAYER 1: Basic movement pattern and move safely in the space

-LAYER 2: 1 vs. 1

-LAYER 3: A player can’t be replaced before everyone have been used on the line

MODIFICATIONS:

-Play the game with more or less players

-Create several lines instead of only one and add attackers and defenders

SAFETY:

-Students should keep eyes up when moving in the space

-Use soft pushing when you want to be replaced by another player

-No pushing when grabbing the penny to your opponent

-End lines away from the walls
